Altum Therapy offers compassionate, insight-oriented counselling for adults seeking to navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity, healing, and hope. Grounded in Catholic anthropology and the dignity of the human person, our therapeutic approach integrates evidence-based models—including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Interpersonal Process Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.
We specialise in supporting individuals facing anxiety, trauma, shame, grief, relationship difficulties, vocational uncertainty, and emotional overwhelm. We also have particular expertise in working with individuals struggling with addictions, including pornography addiction, substance misuse, and compulsive behaviours—helping clients understand the underlying emotional, psychological, and relational drivers of their patterns while building capacity for self-leadership, integration, and healing.
Many clients come to us during times of transition, burnout, or deep questioning—seeking not only symptom relief but meaning, integrity, and renewed wholeness.
Therapy at Altum is relational and attuned. Sessions are delivered via telehealth and are eligible for Medicare rebates under a Mental Health Care Plan. We also provide Critical Incident Response and Psychological First Aid services to workplaces and Church settings.
At Altum, you’ll find not just clinical care—but the presence of a trusted guide walking with you toward growth, self-understanding, and restored connection.

About Shawn
FOUNDER & MANAGING DIRECTOR
Shawn van der Linden brings 30 years of diverse experiences to Altum Integrated and his life and work have been anchored in a call to integrate faith, reason, and psychological care.
He holds a strong belief in the transformative power of the whole human experience and the role that the interpersonal process can play in promoting genuine human flourishing.
“Altum”, meaning both the deep and the heights evokes the call in Luke 5:4 - duc in altum - to put out into the deep, a summons to trust, transformation, and the fullness of our created dignity.

Shawn’s path began not in academia but on Australian construction sites—hands-on, grounded in real life. That same practicality shaped his early years discerning religious life with the Missionaries of God’s Love, immersed in spiritual formation, community, and deep prayer.
This foundational integration—of lived experience and theological reflection—has guided his mission ever since:
To bring healing where it’s most needed, by uniting psychology, spirituality, and human formation.Shawn holds qualifications in theology, social work, family therapy, and management, and is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker. Additionally, he is a trained Mediator and Restorative Practices Facilitator. He has served across diverse settings—from frontline crisis work to high-level executive leadership—always with a steady focus on the whole person.
His leadership has included:
National Manager, Converge International (corporate psychology)
Executive Director Pastoral Services, Archdiocese of Canberra-Goulburn
CEO, Conflict Resolution Service (restorative practice and mediation)
Head of School Counselling and Mental Health, Catholic Education Archdiocese Canberra-Goulburn
Director of International Programs & Master Mentor, CatholicPsych Institute (New York).
Across these roles, Shawn has led teams, shaped systems, and walked closely with people in pain.
His work reflects decades of lived integration—clinical, pastoral, and strategic.
Altum Integrated is the fruit of that journey and brings together everything Shawn has lived, learned and led.
It’s a space where Catholic anthropology meets contemporary psychology.
Where institutions don’t have to choose between mission and mental health.
Where individuals can be seen, heard, and healed—without compromising their faith or dignity.
